Infrared heater tents with their hands

I want to tell his story of many years of selection (selection, construction) of the heater in the winter tent of a fisherman…

Infrared heater tents with their handsTo paraphrase the saying, the Siberian not the one who does not freeze, and one who is well-equipped, more prepared…
And especially for winter fishing in the vast Siberian rivers.
You have to fish at minus 23 to 25, sometimes with the wind.
And in such a situation without a tent is uncomfortable, she is rescued from chilly North wind.
Climbs installed over a pre-tested, efficient hole tent, closed the entrance and catch yourself in the pleasure…
The wind doesn’t bother as “podzhopnik”, sit back and pull…
But without any additional source of heat is still uncomfortable in the tent, the temperature just a couple degrees higher than outside.
“Breathe” will never work…
For a full high need an extra HEATER…

I have a regular fishing tent: Chinese-automatic.

All good: weight, speed of analysis and collection for the next three seasons quietly enough…
Minus: low height and a strong wind bends. But the price of these shortcomings negates, compared to other large tents that cost considerably more.
I’ve had it for a long time and helped out in different weather twists and turns.
At first, for heating, as everyone tried to heat by using a household candle, but it is very inconvenient.
Candles without fixing always ready to fall plumb on uneven ground under the tent is difficult, in the end, burns quickly, and stains from the liquid paraffin on the floor of the tent.
Yes, and the effect of one candle is enough, it turns out even worse… the Steam from the breath… Not to string bloodworms – fishing line is not visible in the result, the temperature increase two to four degrees eaten effect obscure visibility of steam and the need to monitor the verticality of the glow plug.
Decided to improve the heating of the tent with candles, but rather their structure:

Bought forms, melted paraffin, and mounted two or three wicks in each, in the hope that this decision will eliminate all the shortcomings of the previous version.
But the effect remained approximately the same: the temperature in the tent increased slightly, and left the steam from the breath. The only plus is that the wax is burnt out completely to form , the candle fell and as a result, no drops of paraffin on the bottom of the tent.

In parallel tried used for heating dry fuel:

On the one hand, better than candles:
The temperature in the tent rose, no drips on the floor, but…
There are significant disadvantages. Dry fuel smokes and emits a lot of carbon monoxide, you have to ventilate so that the head does not hurt.
Also negative is that the pills quickly burn through, on average, every ten minutes you need to give the following.
In the end, the fishing focus can’t always control in addition to nod often distracted by the burning process…
This way of heating I also do not come up…
We must look for something else….
On Ineta somehow came across videos on the use of Bunsen burners “bourgeois” for heating and water heating.
How cool… See, this is just what I need… I thought at first….

And began to Plastal and punching all sorts of banks, building alcohol heaters:

Done pieces TSAT… different designs…

Infrared heater tents with their hands

In the process of testing the stairwell entrance this burner design has shown good results on heat transfer and burning time.

But in the field this option proved to be very inconvenient to use.
First, the complexity of the fuse: it is necessary to heat capacity of the alcohol to vapor appeared, which is not so easy in the cold and dangerous in a tent.
Second, the complexity and precision in the filling: a little fill – long burns lots and the liquid begins to boil and spill, which could lead to ignition of the tent.
Thirdly, such a construction is problematic to urgently extinguish (blow out), only to wait until burned completely.
After seeing the real fire hazard of this design (after boiling of the liquid and splashing it on the floor, the three of us were urgently evacuated, or rather, jumped out of the tent, almost tearing it).
In the end, the alcohol burner under our terms and conditions for use on fishing did not come… Better alcohol to warm up the inside… And body warmth, and soul well…

And that’s something not very productive hole, when the temperature is minus 25 outside, heating the tent dry fuel at 50-70 rubles. per pack, changing the tablets every 10-12 minutes and breathing paraffin fumes in my head came the thought that something had to change… previously Tested heaters are not satisfied with…

Poryskav on the Internet, stumbled on the solution: infrared gas heater the tent, but the impressive size…
And called compact…

It is a place to carry a foot transition is hard (weight over 2 kg), and is accordingly from 1500 to 3000 rubles…

Look for more: experienced fishermen recommend the use of conventional gas burner-plate:

Or this:

But it is not suitable for lovers of Hiking the fish heavy…
It is necessary to find easy like:

Burner beautiful, well, just good, respectively, and the price… under 2000 rubles and more.
Not our price…
I’m on fire still a gas heater in the tent…
User reviews of just recommended…
In the end I found what I was looking for – an inexpensive nozzle for gas cylinder:

This burner is disassembled. Price only 225 RUB (ours!)…
Transferred in assembled form in a little bag, designed by default for threaded gas cylinder (130-150 rubles).

When using the adapter this burner can be mounted on the collet cylinders (they are cheaper 45-55 rubles).

Here separately the adapter bought in the nearest fishing store (130-170 rubles)

This torch collet cylinder with the adapter to the burner Assembly

And here under steam, gas lighted….
Tests conducted in the cold of floor space. In the operating mode, the burner provides heat, but not very…

In the end, I realized: burner manufacturers designed for heating of vessels located directly over the gas flame and not heating the room…
You need to increase the efficiency of heat transfer into the surrounding space, in particular on heating.
This requires the burner to adapt the mesh heat spreader type:

There are commercially ready. But it is again expensive (900-1200 rubles).
Will do… Picked up the necessary tools:

For primary semi-circular lens flame found and bought an ordinary household strainer:

Fasteners to the burner, made of pieces cut according to pattern galvanized:

Just say, take a small stock and cut out…

Here’s what happened:

This is the adapter for the collet cylinder.

With a lighted gas heat dissipation effect happened, but the heat around is not such as we would like.
In the end, decided to finish…
The neighbor at the garage spotted the metal mesh, score (many thanks to him)…

The size of the cut of galvanized metal scissors, metal piece of the desired size:

Attaching to the sheet “a strainer,” said the right size top and bottom and cut off:

On the top platform drilled hole of 3 mm around the perimeter for greater traction:

Bent fasteners, plants on the grid

And bonded studs.

After checked the collet on the cylinder…

and on the threaded gas cylinder

The effect on heat transfer has exceeded all expectations…

From the usual burner nozzle no heat is felt only on this approach:

And with a nozzle infrared hand burns already at this distance:

Close hand (as to a simple gas burner) to homemade infrared heater bring simply impossible.
Tested, as already mentioned, in the entrance, eventually working for 30 minutes I felt a significant increase in the ambient temperature.

It seems to be the infrared burner is ready, you should try it on the fishing…
In the end took her plus two cylinders, one collet, the other threaded.

The exit was on the first ice, so from shore hike to the hole took more than an hour.
Found catchability of the hole on the perch, put the tent.
But as they walked, the cylinders were frozen (-15 on the street was, and they were lying in a fishing box…)

To light the collet did not happen.
Threaded (by the user operates in temperatures up to -20 degrees) made the fire in the burner, but weakly, more siphoning gas, in the end he was blocked, that would not to breathe in the tent…
In the end, I got the problem of freezing gas in cylinders at low temperatures.
It was necessary as-that to solve…
After returning from a fishing trip turned to the forum, and found there the option:
Need passive heater of the cylinder, using heat from the burner…
First I decided to save money by taking for heating of copper wire of large cross-section:

But this design could not cope with their tasks, even warmly the “feeder” conditions not brought the balloon to the desired operating temperature.
In the end, I tried this temporary construction: copper bar, bolted to the cylinder.

Effect: after half an hour of burning this design came to the right mode…
In the future, for winter fishing, do not consider cylinders are threaded, as they are expensive and difficult to make them heated.

It is finalized, is attached to the plate, the quick release fastener to the container:

The effect is… Burner burns and gives warmth…

PS design improvements and upgrades in the next article…

Supplement (improvements) to the article that today:
I stumbled into a fishing store on the stand under the tank:

Keeps cool…

Everything seems to be perfect, warm enough, the burner burns fine, but:
When testing in the fields revealed a few minor drawbacks (inconvenience) the vertical structure of the infrared heater tents on the collet cylinder.
1. The design turned high. Using the cradle the danger of falling vertical collet of the cylinder closer to zero… But when the “excitement” of fishing is possible wrong move to drop, which could lead to fire…
2. The second problem is high design – it’s a Chinese machine, which walls are sloping and not vertical so high the heater must not be push to the wall. You have to install it closer to the center, which ultimately significantly reduces the working (hunting) zone. There’s a chance that the line on the hot burner with fast playing. In the end, change is already configured and verified (hunting) gear…
3. Third, when the design had infrared heater fastened through two plates on the divider burner screw connection. This decision was caused by the vertical structure to a red-hot heater is accidentally dropped. In the end, quickly remove the infrared heater does not work, it is necessary to take along on a fishing trip a screwdriver and Unscrew the cold three bolts and no loose nuts to put the heater in the gas plate (for example, to cook directly on the fishing dumplings)…
But these flaws vertikalni design of the heater just for me and my equipment for fishing.
Who in their forays tents is larger and a slightly different design than the “Chinese” (for example, tents-umbrellas Scout) and not bother cooking a hot meal right hole, a vertical solution, I think, has its advantages over the horizontal: size and weight less…

Maybe in a couple years when the “Chinese” absolutely will be ruined, I shall buy a tent of the type of “Maverick”; here’s the handy upright heater…

And today, after analyzing, I have decided to splurge a little and bought for 300 rubles. burner with horizontal cylinder.

Bought a new mesh for the primary diffuser heater. By design it was supposed to be a smaller diameter than the vertical. Long searched, but found only 20 rubles., with the handle of the strainer fell off by itself.

Similar cut the bottom plate of galvanized metal for infrared heater, with a minor change:

This longitudinal four fasteners, which will hold the heater head on the stops of the burner.

And cutouts for mounting of the scope of the first mesh.

Bent them, insert the hemisphere mesh and bent locking.

The top of the heater design is the same as the vertical:

Fasten the mesh to the side studs.

There are several steps (made passive heated, securing it sanitary clamp), and infrared heater on the horizontal collet cylinder is almost ready.
And tried…

Special attention was paid to the stand for the horizontal position of the cylinder. In the summer its level under it, put shelves on, slivers, stones. But on ice, this solution is not suitable.
Cut it from foam polystyrene remaining after the manufacture of fishing boxes with their hands.

Fixed the stand by attaching it to the clamp with three turns of regular electrical tape.

The result was this:

The heater in the “stowed” state, as can be seen, space is a little bit.

Infrared heater from deformation when moving protected hard case.

Design collection, put together in just a minute…
The problem with horizontal design is that the passive heater is at the top of the container and the irrational use of its heat for heating.
So I had to use the uniform distribution of heat in the cylinder “thermos” – plain old wool sock.

The horizontal design of the heater is conveniently located in “the Chinese”, the effect of it completely satisfied…
Lightweight, compact, the bulb lasts for 3-4 hours, you can even cook on the burner, fireproof, not “siphon” gas, fits tent sizes…

The result I like.

P. S. Additions at the expense of “carbon monoxide”…
This design was calculated for use on sea fishing within one light of day… the Main criterion for minimum weight and efficiency… In “the Chinese” in which it is using now, there is a “Dormer” window on the roof and the possibility of not fully closed zip entry. In the end, you can quickly adjust the “flow-through” ventilation in a tent.. in This way the access of additional oxygen on a fishing trip in a tent is not even used, because in the final (modified) version of the design of the heat and the smell of gas is not felt. I am sure that in this embodiment, the use in the tent up to 4 hours of continuous operation it is completely safe.
In “night”, this design is not used… I Agree, if you do not configure the “flow-through” ventilation system, and lying at the bottom of the airtight tents, and possibly burned out, although it is under the question… What is the volume of carbon monoxide may be from the combustion of “completely” only 400 grams of gas???.
