The nibble fish in the summer during a thunderstorm

Why summer during a lightning storm, or before its beginning, the fish of many species increased feeding activity, which often manifests increased biting?

Precipitation, including severe, which are accompanied by thunderstorms, are closely related to other weather factors (atmospheric pressure, wind, electric fields), which together alter the behavior of fish. Scientists believe that during a thunderstorm increases the electric field and this should reduce the biting activity in the pre-storm and storm periods. From the point of view of sharp change of atmospheric pressure storm periods unfavorable for fish.

But fishing practice shows that at such time is actively pecking Chub, roach, perch, carp, trout, crucian carp, bream and other fish. And after the storm very well take a salmon. Scientists can not yet give an explanation for this phenomenon with 100% certainty, there are only logical assumptions.

First, during any precipitation, especially during storms, increase the level, increasing the flow and turbulence of water, which always positively affects the nutritional and motor activity of fish. Second, at high humidity, the insects flying above the waters, get wet, become heavy and fall into the water, where they were already waiting for fish. Intensive mixing of the upper layers of the water carries the fallen insects and water.

There are several types of thunderstorms that occur in different conditions and with different strength.

Thunderstorms are dry, when a few days (sometimes weeks) in the atmosphere is observed lightning activity. Often they are not associated with frontal processes and are independent of weather phenomena. Such thunderstorms may favorably act on the feeding activity of fishes, since relatively long time is stable a low (sometimes high) pressure, but most importantly, no jumps of atmospheric pressure that do not like fish. During prolonged dry thunderstorm is usually a significant cloud that also like fish that avoid direct sunlight. Theoretically, a dry thunderstorm is a type of ordinary thunderstorms, but precipitation fell somewhere nearby, in an area invisible to observers.

In the middle band dry thunderstorm occurs in case of prolonged heat (+28 °C and above), relative humidity it is 40% or less. But in Central Asia and in many tropics the majority of thunderstorms takes place in such type. There are still thunderstorms, which bring cyclones. Usually during the day (often half a day) prior to a thunderstorm there is a sharp pressure drop, which negatively affects fish. At low pressure reduces the oxygen content in the water, so fish have to rise closer to the surface, they become restless, can randomly run around the pond.

And an hour before a thunderstorm and during it the pressure is equalized without jumps. Fish calm down and begin to feed on fallen insects, and actively respond to the bait. There are thunderstorms, which are neither cyclones nor anticyclones are not connected, and just bring weather fronts. In such cases, the atmospheric pressure can be both low and high, and the bite depends on the strength and duration of the storm, wind, and other factors.

It is noticed that in most cases, changing weather conditions affect the feeding activity of predatory fish and juvenile and growing individuals. The predators grabbed a weakened and inactive victim who is unable to escape from them. But it was during the storm of predatory fish not so vigorously attack their victims, which, in turn, begin to feed intensively, and the bite improves.
