Snipe hunting

Hunting for a snipe (kulik) begins in August and continues until the birds fly to warmer lands. Usually these snipe leaves our country in October, but if the autumn is warm and the cold comes late, the birds can stay until November.

In the spring and until August, hunting for them is prohibited, and they only get fat by the autumn. There are only two ways to hunt a snipe: hunting with and without a dog. Both of these methods are interesting in different ways, and we will discuss each of them in detail in this article.

To hunt for snipe was successful, the hunter needs to know the lifestyle and habits of snipe, which are described in the article of the same name.

For hunting, shot # 9 is taken as cartridges, the smallest and not the most hefty. This fraction is just “imprisoned” for this bird and other small birds. Firstly, it will not smash it to shreds, and secondly, the low punchiness of the shot allows you to hit even the fastest and agile Kulik.

To hunt it is better to go out at dawn, to arrive early to the place of snipe dwelling. It is best to know these places in advance. The hunters, who for the first time follow a snipe, can not immediately hit the Kulik, since his flight is very zigzag (broken), and generally when flying, he turns from side to side. Because of this, the snipe is very difficult to aim.

To improve your performance on this hunt increased, you can use some techniques that will shoot birds without spending a lot of ammo:

Firstly, the kulik during the flight sways from side to side only at the beginning of the flight, after 20-30 meters its flight is leveled, and it flies already on a more predictable trajectory. That’s when the snipe flies smoothly, and you need to make a shot. In addition, the accuracy of the fraction at this distance becomes smaller, and therefore, there is more chance of success. But still you have to get shot to a snipe. Depending on the distance and the speed of the Kulik’s flight, you need to be pointed not directly into it, but a little further.

Secondly, when taking off, the bird does not immediately move along a zigzag path. Only just flying out of the thickets, it at first seems to “pick up speed” and is not yet spinning back and forth. That’s when you need to shoot. Naturally, from the first times you may not be able to do it, here you also need to accumulate some experience. But after, after training, you will shoot very accurately. And this skill is useful to you on the hunt for other animals.

Hunting for snipe with dogs.

To hunt for a sandpiper, ideal for peg dogs, hunting with which it is a pleasure. Approach should be to the place of hunting from the opposite side, where the wind blows, so that the birds do not smell the crook and the hunter. Having lowered the dog from the leash, the hunter follows her. After some time after a short search, the dog will find a snipe hidden in the bushes and stand in the rack. The hunter commands her to scare the bird. If the shot on the snipe took off was successful, then a well-trained dog selects the carcass of the Kulik and brings the hunter. Hunt for snipe can last from morning to evening, and in one day you can shoot more than 30 birds. The main thing is that the dog actively searches for and finds prey.
Hunting for a snipe without a dog (self-wind).

For some people, hunting without a dog will seem boring, but it’s not. Solitude in the bosom of nature, in a quiet place always energizes and gives rest to the whole body! You can, after all, calmly think about the most intimate, for example – about the meaning of life Innocent, or simply enjoy the beauty of Russian nature.

The result of hunting a snipe by a self-propelled gun will depend on how much you can find the birds, how many of them scare and make you fly out of the ground for a shot. And most importantly – how to find fallen birds in dense grass. But if you remember well where the snipe fell, you can not find it. The main thing is to go and immediately raise.

Hunting with a self-propelled gun is very effective before the very flight of birds. Waders gather in large flocks, and before a long journey somewhere sit down and rest. But not in the swamp, but in other places – in the forests, in the fields, in the edges, etc. If you manage to meet this flock, then the hunt will be more than productive.

You can hunt for a snipe with a team. Most often 2-3 people. Effective collective hunting can be hunting with a rope. 2 hunters tie a rope for a length of 20-30 m for the belt and run parallel to each other. The rope touches the grass and scares the snipe. They rise into the air (there are several pieces at the same time), and the hunters shoot at the birds, agreeing in advance which side will be beaten.
